There are numerous regulations in place to ensure that the equipment we use remains fit-for-purpose and safe to use.
Here are just some of the regulations:
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
- The Pressure System Safety Regulations (for your air receiver on the compressor).
- Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) for any extraction equipment.
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.
- Electricity at Work Act.
It is a legal requirement that some of the equipment is regularly inspected by a competent inspector.
These inspections are usually driven by your insurance broker so happen ‘automatically’. However, quite often this does not happen in smaller businesses.
It is the responsibility of the business owner to ensure they comply with the regulations. Not having a current inspection report means we are not compliant with the regulations.
The Simpler Safety Health & Safety Management programme helps to ensure that you remain compliant and everything is readily to hand if you ever receive a visit from the authorities.
Having no records means we have no defence if something ever goes wrong.
